Ellis AI, an AI startup targeting private lending firms, announced the end of its covert operations and the completion of a $10 million seed funding round. Founded by Ryan Williams, the company's product focuses on managing the fragmented data, documents, and communication processes in the daily operations of private lending firms.

This round of financing lineup

Investors in this round include First Round Capital, 645 Ventures, Harlem Capital, Khosla Ventures, Thrive Capital, Slow Capital, and Mellody Hobson, CEO of Ariel Alternatives.

The founder came from Cadre

Williams co-founded the real estate investment platform Cadre with Josh Kushner and Jared Kushner in 2014. Public information shows that Cadre raised more than $160 million in total funding, with a peak valuation of $800 million, before being acquired by Yieldstreet in 2024 for an undisclosed sum.

The product targets backend operations.

Ellis AI aims to centralize the various software, accounting information, and documents used by private lending firms onto a single platform, reducing the need for teams to switch between multiple systems. The company claims the system can identify data discrepancies and assist with tasks such as portfolio monitoring and report preparation through AI agents.

Williams stated that many organizations still need to download files from multiple systems, adjust formats, verify balances, and manually fill in information when closing accounts at the end of the month, making Excel often the actual operational tool. Ellis AI's approach is not to replace existing systems, but to complete the connection and organization on top of existing tools.

Key decisions are still made manually.

Regarding the boundaries of automation, Williams stated that critical judgments and key operations remain the responsibility of humans. The company hopes to leverage AI to shorten information processing time and help teams complete analysis and decision preparation more quickly, rather than completely replacing human judgment.
