Mecka AI is nearing the completion of a new round of financing, with Sequoia Capital as the lead investor, and the valuation is approximately 500 million US dollars. People familiar with the matter say that this transaction occurred just three months after the company's last round of financing, indicating that the enthusiasm for financing in the field of robot training data continues to rise.

Financing Progress

TechCrunch Two sources with knowledge of the matter said that the specific scale of this round of financing has not yet been disclosed, and the terms of the deal have not been finalized either. Mecka AI and Sequoia have not commented on this.

The company just announced in June of this year that it had completed a financing round of $60 million, led by Framework Ventures, with Menlo Ventures, SV Angel, and Kindred Ventures also participating in the investment.

Robot training data

Mecka AI was established in 2024 by four entrepreneurs. The team does not have a background in robotics, but they recognized a gap in real-world data, which they believe to be one of the bottlenecks hindering the further advancement of general-purpose robots, especially humanoid robots.

The company pays participants to record their daily activities, such as making coffee and repairing cars, and then collects data through body sensors and smartphones for use in robot training. This model is compared with that of human data companies like Scale AI.

Track competition intensifies

Mecka currently does not have a public list of clients, but several robotics companies and the AI laboratory are using this type of real-world data. TechCrunch also mentioned that another similar company, XDOF, is approaching a new round of financing, with a valuation of about 1.2 billion US dollars.

Such companies are extending the use of human motion data, which is initially used in large model training, to robot training scenarios as well.
