EthSystems, spun out of the Ethereum Foundation, is focusing on institutional privacy infrastructure. The company believes that the biggest obstacle for banks and asset management firms migrating real-world financial transactions to public blockchains is not scalability, but rather transaction confidentiality and compliance requirements.
Demand shifts to formal deployment
EthSystems, incubated by the Ethereum Foundation's Privacy Working Group, was spun off earlier this month. The company targets clients including banks, asset management firms, and government agencies, with applications encompassing tokenized assets, stablecoins, and other financial applications.
Mo Jalil, co-founder of the company, stated that institutional demand has changed significantly over the past year. Early on, they primarily engaged with teams responsible for innovative pilot projects; now, they are increasingly connecting with business units such as trading desks and asset management. This means that many institutions are no longer stuck in the proof-of-concept stage but are beginning to consider deploying real cash flows and assets on-chain.
Settle directly on Ethereum
EthSystems' approach is not to create a new blockchain, but to help institutions deploy privacy technologies that allow sensitive transaction data to be processed confidentially while still being settled on Ethereum.
Jalil stated that almost all financial institutions require a certain level of confidentiality, but confidentiality is not the same as anonymity. The key is to ensure that different stakeholders have control over the scope, timing, and manner of data visibility, while also meeting regulatory requirements.
The company stated that it will not bet on a single product, nor does it intend to rebuild the entire privacy technology stack. Instead, it will provide privacy architecture suggestions, customize infrastructure, and integrate technical solutions from existing privacy projects based on customer needs.
The institutional privacy sector is heating up.
Currently, EthSystems is not the only infrastructure provider for institutional privacy. Canton Network, backed by institutions such as Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, and DTCC, as well as projects in the Ethereum ecosystem such as Aztec and Miden, are also advancing enterprise-grade confidential transaction solutions.

EthSystems believes that the gap between public blockchains and institutional control requirements needs to be bridged through cryptography and privacy tools. The company's shift to a for-profit entity is also related to market demand. Jalil stated that after the team completed their proof-of-concept within the foundation, they were frequently asked by institutions whether they could pay to advance the project to a production environment. The commercial company model facilitates fundraising and makes it easier to enter the procurement processes of large financial institutions.
