According to CoinMeta, as reported by bitcoin.com, the Brazilian Central Bank's report shows that in the first half of 2026, the purchase volume of crypto assets in Brazil reached $14.68 billion, a 135% increase from $6.24 billion in the same period of 2025. The demand for stablecoins accounted for over 90%, with the purchase volume of stablecoins reaching $2.632 billion in May 2026, a year-on-year increase of 158%. Fernando Rocha, the head of the Brazilian Central Bank's statistical department, stated that the Brazilian crypto market is moving towards maturity and integration. The Brazilian Central Bank has classified virtual asset service providers ( VASP ) as third-category institutions, and the new regulatory system will come into effect in January 2027. The government's proposal to levy a 3.5% tax on stablecoin transactions has been put on hold.
