CoinMeta data: After a week of AI programming, the estimated cost of quantum-safe Bitcoin transactions has dropped from $320 to $66. According to Starkware research, previous estimates were based on a transaction mined on Bitcoin in August, which took about 3,100 hours to prepare and involved the use of approximately 100 graphics processors. Starkware subsequently opened the code up for a competition, where participants used AI programming tools to accelerate the search for solutions. The leading submission could check about 881 million candidates per second, compared to the initial code's rate of about 146 million candidates per second. This method provides Bitcoin with a form of protection based on hashing to address potential threats from future quantum computers.
