EU banking regulators propose to certify the DeFi lending agreements
2026-09-25 02:11:59
According to CoinMeta, EU banking regulators have proposed to certify decentralized finance (DeFi) lending protocols and to bring crypto lending under the regulation of the Markets in Crypto Assets Act (MiCA). The European Banking Authority (EBA) stated that crypto lending is already active in at least 16 EU countries, and licensed platforms along with artificial intelligence tools make such lending more accessible through licensed platforms. The authority recommends conducting suitability tests, imposing leverage limits, and issuing additional risk warnings. It also considers banning licensed companies from providing lending involving stablecoins that lack regulatory approval. This proposal is in response to a review by the committee and does not change any existing rules.
