According to CoinMeta, Hive Digital Technologies filed a complaint with the European Commission regarding the VAT dispute in Sweden. The Swedish tax authorities reclassified the data center services of its two Swedish subsidiaries as self-operated mining activities and applied this classification retrospectively to business conducted since 2022, which may result in the subsidiaries having to return the VAT they have already received. Hive Digital Technologies believes that the activities carried out by the subsidiaries for their customers constitute taxable business under the contract, but the Swedish courts refused to refer the issue to the European Court of Justice. As a result, Hive Digital Technologies submitted the dispute to the European Commission.
