CoinMeta data: North Korean hackers are suspected of launching a cyberattack on the cryptocurrency exchange Bitget on Thursday, stealing over $351 million in digital currency, making it the largest theft case of the year. This cyberattack is the latest in a series of high-profile hacking incidents targeting the crypto industry, surpassing the $340 million hack that occurred in September. Bitget stated that the security vulnerability involved unauthorized transfers from their hot wallets, and they have now suspended cryptocurrency withdrawals online. The CEO of Bitget, Gracy Chen, said that this theft is highly consistent with the known modus operandi of North Korean hacker groups. According to data from blockchain intelligence company TRM Labs, North Korea has been responsible for about three-quarters of all crypto theft incidents since 2026.
