According to CoinMeta, Bill Gates stated in an interview with a NBC news outlet that AI companies should not self-regulate and called on Washington to establish safety regulations. His warning comes as Goldman Sachs predicts that global AI investment will exceed $1 trillion by 2026. Gates believes that legislators should enact clear laws to guide AI companies on how to monitor risks and take necessary safety measures. He pointed out that the responsibility of developers is merely to “add a slight burden” and should not slow down progress. Gates also mentioned that the potential of AI is sufficient to trigger major events, which could even lead to “billion deaths.” Meanwhile, industry leaders have different views on the necessity of safety measures. Goldman Sachs expects global AI investment to exceed $1 trillion by 2026, with the United States accounting for about $581 billion of that amount. Despite the growth in AI investment, Microsoft pointed out that not everyone can equally benefit from its advantages.
