Japan's top foreign exchange official warns market not to ignore the Japan-US exchange rate signals

According to CoinMeta, Japan's top foreign exchange official, Junichi Mitamura, stated that the market should take note of the "very clear" signals sent by Japan and the United States last week regarding the yen issue, which demonstrate their determination to take action in response to excessive declines. Japanese Finance Minister Taro Kato said last Friday that U.S. President Donald Trump expressed concern about the weak yen during his summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and the level of detail in the exchange rate discussions between the two leaders was unusual. Mitamura said, "Both the Japanese Prime Minister, the Finance Minister, and the U.S. side have sent very clear messages. The market should take this information seriously." He added, "I will closely monitor whether the market will continue to take this information seriously." Mitamura refused to comment on whether Japan might intervene in the currency market again to support the yen, but said that he is neither satisfied nor reassured about the recent trend of the yen. This indicates that the Japanese government remains vigilant about the risk of further declines in the yen.
