According to CoinMeta, Acurast announced the deployment of an open-source AI decision-making model, Laya, within its decentralized smartphone computing network, enabling this model to process decisions in real-time on Android devices, rather than relying on centralized data centers. According to Acurast, this deployment operates entirely on mobile edge nodes, utilizing the distributed capabilities of smartphones to handle tasks such as classification, gaming, navigation, security, and content moderation. Laya was developed by Convai Innovations and is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license; it is designed to make structured decisions rather than generate dialog responses. The model employs a non-autoregressive architecture, which means it does not generate answers word for word like large language models. Acurast founder Alessandro De Carli stated: "By running Laya on Acurast, we have proven that such systems can run safely and on a large scale on hardware that everyone already possesses, providing a truly open and decentralized alternative."
