CoinMeta Data: On Monday, Chainlink released the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) 2.0, which brings a major upgrade to its communication and bridging infrastructure, enabling different blockchains to communicate with each other and exchange funds. This release comes five months after this year's largest DEFI hacking incident, which was attributed to bridges that relied on a single security check. CCIP 2.0 allows companies to add their own security checks to these transfers, and Chainlink still verifies each transfer through its 16 independent node operators. Users do not need to become “cross-chain security infrastructure experts,” said Chainlink Labs's Chief Commercial Officer Johann Eid. Traditional bridges have lost billions of dollars due to insecure infrastructure, while building such infrastructure in-house is slow and expensive. Existing Chainlink users have automatically migrated to the new version.
