UK shop price inflation slowed in September, retailers call on the government to reduce burdens

According to CoinMeta, a survey released on Tuesday by the British Retailers Association ( BRC ) shows that despite the increased cost pressures on retailers due to the Iran war, price inflation in British shops slightly slowed down in September. The British Retailers Association is calling on the government to take further measures to support the retail industry. The CEO of BRC, Helen Dickinson, stated: “Retailers have absorbed round after round of additional costs, but there is a limit to the pressure businesses can bear. With the business tax rate set to increase next April, along with rising employment costs, energy bills, and packaging taxes, the budget will become a critical turning point. Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak could help control rising prices by reducing the business tax burden for retailers in the tax and spending plan to be announced on October 28.” The survey indicates that the price inflation rate in British shops fell from 1.5% in August to 1.4% in September, slightly higher than the average of 1.3% over the past three months.
