U.S. Treasury Secretary: Stablecoins will consolidate the dollar's global hegemony
2026-10-28 09:06:53
According to CoinMeta, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated during his appearance at the Ripple Swell conference that the force behind reserve currencies is shifting from past military protection to a "technological umbrella." The United States' leadership in the field of digital assets will become a key tool for consolidating the dollar's global hegemony. He pointed out that over 90% of stablecoins are pegged to the dollar and use US Treasury bonds as reserve assets. The widespread adoption of stablecoins in emerging markets will further increase demand for the dollar and US Treasury bonds, becoming an important source of funding for the US Treasury Department. In response to the setback of the Clarity Act bill not being passed by Congress, Bessent indicated that the Treasury Department will use its authority to coordinate with SEC and CFTC to fill the legislative gap through administrative regulations, and to establish industry standards to prevent the recurrence of "debanking" actions targeting crypto companies.
