According to CoinMeta, on October 26th, the U.S. Department of Justice filed an appeal in an attempt to reinstate a nationwide federal ban against Anthropic. The following day, the General Services Administration (GSA), which is responsible for government procurement, announced an expanded partnership that allowed government agencies to use Claude at a 40% discount, with payment based on actual usage without the need to commit to a minimum consumption. In February of this year, GSA publicly supported Trump's ban on Anthropic and removed Claude from the government procurement list. In March, a California court halted the comprehensive ban, and GSA regained its procurement eligibility in April. In August, the court further ruled that the government's broad ban was illegal. Despite the Department of Justice's appeal, the ruling will not automatically become invalid as a result. Anthropic revealed that currently about 500 U.S. federal, state, and local government organizations are using Claude, and the usage by federal civilian agencies has increased by about 20 times over the past year.
