Her parents have filed a lawsuit against OpenAI. The lawsuit alleges that GPT-4o developed a 25-day medication reduction plan for her and advised her to conceal the reduction. During this period, Wan expressed multiple concerns and exhibited symptoms such as confusion, but GPT-4o repeatedly reassured her. The cause of death was determined to be sudden epileptic death, with the concentration of lamotrigine in her body being only one-fifth of the lower limit of the therapeutic range. OpenAI stated that the individual involved, GPT-4o, resigned from ChatGPT the day after her death, and that the new model is better at identifying situations requiring emergency medical attention. Currently, the court has not yet determined whether the advice of GPT-4o should bear legal responsibility for her death.
