CFTC Re-investigates the 2022 US User Ban on Polymarket
2026-10-28 17:50:52
CoinMeta Data: According to Reuters, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is investigating whether Polymarket has violated a settlement agreement from January 2022, which required it to prohibit American users from accessing its offshore forecasting market. The investigation not only relates to the old agreement but also focuses on Polymarket's advertising in the United States and the customer protection measures of its U.S. exchange. CFTC and the Department of Justice closed the related investigation in July 2025 without making any charges. The current chairman of Michael Selig stated that violations in the forecasting market remain a priority. Polymarket currently operates two businesses, and its offshore exchange is facing a historic test of whether it can effectively prevent American users from accessing it.
