Norwegian Prime Minister says call with Putin aimed at conveying European stance

According to CoinMeta, the Norwegian Prime Minister defended his trilateral talks with Russian President Putin and Finnish President on Wednesday. He stated that the aim was to ensure that Russian leaders not only heard the views of the United States but also understood the position of Europe. The Norwegian Prime Minister expressed that Norway hoped to promote a de-escalation of the situation, including stopping attacks on Russia's and Ukraine's energy infrastructure, ceasing strikes on ships transporting Ukrainian grain, and initiating prisoner of war exchanges. When asked whether peace could be achieved without Ukraine ceding territory, he said, "Currently, Russia controls nearly 20% of Ukraine's territory. Ukraine will never sign an agreement acknowledging its loss of territory. However, whether Ukraine can accept the current front lines as a given fact and a starting point for negotiations is another question. More importantly, what kind of security guarantees can Ukraine expect after a peace agreement is reached? Putin also acknowledged that this is a significant issue." Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated that the talks on Tuesday did not bring any new progress in resolving the Ukraine conflict, and European countries were merely trying to secure a role in the negotiations.
