According to CoinMeta, as reported by nada and news, the cloud desktop service of Japan's internet giant GMO group suffered unauthorized access, affecting a potential total of 26,739 servers. In their ransom note, the hackers demanded a ransom in BTC and ETH, claiming that GMO's cryptocurrency exchange could immediately provide the funds, and threatened to continue with abnormal transactions in the affected accounts and disclose user data. The initial ransom demand was 50 million US dollars, which was later reduced to 1 million US dollars. Masatoshi Kumagaya, the representative of the GMO group, clearly stated that they would not compromise and did not pay any amount. The cryptocurrency exchange under their umbrella, GMO Coin, also confirmed that no abnormal operations were found in customer accounts. Although the hackers subsequently released some of the data and threatened to update it daily, the website domain name that contained the leaked information was shut down on the early morning of October 28th.
