According to CoinMeta, the U.S. trade deficit in goods unexpectedly widened in September due to increased imports, rising by 2.1% (or $2.8 billion) to $134.9 billion, compared to economists' previous forecast of $130.2 billion. As the AI investment boom drove up imports, and these were mainly capital goods, trade has not contributed to GDP growth for three consecutive quarters. Last month, goods imports increased by $8.1 billion to $344.1 billion, while goods exports increased by $5.3 billion to $209.2 billion. The government will release the preliminary estimate for the third quarter's GDP on Thursday. Economists predict that the growth rate for GDP will be 3.2%, with AI investment and consumer spending expected to be the main drivers. The economic growth rate in the second quarter was 2.2%.
