According to CoinMeta, OpenAI is considering purchasing Google’s tensor processing unit (TPU) chips. It is expected that they will invest up to $600 billion together with Amazon, Microsoft, and Google’s parent company Alphabet in AI infrastructure, aiming to challenge NVIDIA’s market dominance. Although the financial terms, quantities, and delivery timelines have not been disclosed yet, this potential acquisition will deepen the relationship between these two AI competitors. OpenAI currently relies on NVIDIA’s GPU, while Google is increasingly providing its own processors to external customers.
