Last night, “Saturday Night Live” joked about the recent doomsday warnings in the artificial intelligence industry. The show’s actor Jane Wickline imitated Anthropic, the CEO of Dario Amodei.
"Weekend Update" host Michael Che —— He seems to be a bit unsure about the pronunciation of the surname Amodei during the program —— He first mentioned that this CEO "stumbled during a promotional tour," and it also seems that he agreed with a former employee's claim that artificial intelligence could destroy humanity.
The Amodei version of Wickline wore a rather exaggerated wig, spoke in broken intervals, and her responses would occasionally turn into a kind of self-monologue similar to the Gollum style, as if she was debating with her own dark side. The Amodei portrayed by Wickline also assured the audience that the AI executives 'have reached a consensus on this matter: we do not approve of what we are doing.'
“AI is not a weapon; it is a tool: a tool used to make weapons,” she said. “I implore you to ask me to stop.”
As for the purported benefits of this technology, such as the potential to cure cancer in the future, the fictional version of Amodei says: "In other words: in 10 years, there will be about a 10% chance that cancer will no longer be a problem for anyone."
