IT News on September 30th: According to a report by Reuters today, Dutch police arrested a member of the ShinyHunters hacker group on Tuesday. They are currently investigating his alleged involvement in plotting murder for hire overseas.
It is reported that this man is 24 years old. The police found a murder plan in his laptop, and authorities are investigating whether the murder he planned actually took place.
Although Dutch authorities have not yet made the identity of this man public, his former employer, a cybersecurity company headquartered in Amsterdam named Neo Security, stated that his name is Pepijn van der Staap.
Public reports indicate that ShinyHunters is one of the most active cybercrime gangs in recent years. In June 2026, the gang exploited a zero-day vulnerability of Oracle PeopleSoft to attack more than 100 organizations, about two-thirds of which were universities. It is noted that the vulnerability was identified as CVE-2026-35273, and its severity score was rated at 9.8 by CVSS.
Prior to this, the gang had also attacked Rockstar Games, educational platform Canvas, and medical supplier McKesson.
