Milpitas, California, USA, October 6th / PRNewswire / -- Today, Logic Fruit Technologies releases L-Nex ™, a series of FPGA-based baseboard management controller (BMC) products for open computing projects (OCP) targeting DC-SCM 2.x servers. L-Nex ™ operates on OpenBMC and integrates the management processor, host interface, remote KVM, telemetry, and hardware root of trust into a single reconfigurable FPGA SoC.
The core idea is to shift server management from fixed-function chips to a configurable platform – which is defined together with the customer during the design import phase, and then continuously evolved throughout the entire lifecycle of the server through certified software and FPGA bitstream updates.
Why focus on the AI infrastructure?
- AI / GPU Servers require more powerful telemetry capabilities, power and thermal management, as well as higher-level security for management layers.
- Servers are typically deployed for many years, yet security standards and protocols continue to evolve.
- To adapt to changes, fixed BMC chips usually require a new generation of chips; however, L-Nex ™ can be adapted through updates.
Configuration · Deployment · Evolution · Expansion
- Configure platform-specific interfaces, telemetry, and security features during the design import phase.
- Based on the open and standardized OCP DC - SCM / DC-SCI architecture deployment, and utilizing the upstream OpenBMC.
- Through certified update evolution management, interfaces, and security features.
- Integrate customer-defined logic into the retained logical resources, and run it within a universal and controlled platform.
Key Competencies
- Upstream OpenBMC, supports Redfish, IPMI, PLDM / MCTP and SPDM; provides BSP with source code delivery and drivers.
- Hardware Trusted Root: Secure boot and measured boot, certification, as well as firmware resilience that complies with NIST SP 800-193.
- Provide a path to move towards post-quantum cryptography without the need to replace the management architecture.
- Telemetry analysis independent of the host – thermal anomalies, fan failure prediction, power consumption trends (available in early stages).
- Multi-chip architecture across the FPGA SoC series to reduce dependence on a single supply source.
"Many critical control functions within the server are still defined by fixed-function chips. With the help of L-Nex ™, we are building a reconfigurable management platform that allows customers to participate in shaping its next-generation systems – and these systems can continue to evolve even after they are deployed," said Logic Fruit Technologies, President and CEO of Sunil Kar.
Supply Situation
L-Nex ™ is still under development, with the goal of being ready for mass production in the third quarter of 2027. Logic Fruit is currently undergoing early evaluations and designing partnership programs, in contact with OEM, ODM, ultra-large-scale cloud service providers, and infrastructure operators.
