On October 8th, Gate stated that this card will connect the balance in the Gate account to the Visa payment network, allowing eligible users to make payments at any online or offline merchants that accept this card. The exchange mentioned that users will be able to apply for and manage this product through the Gate app.
This announcement does not provide a complete and publicly available list covering more than 40 supported markets. Gate indicates that country or region availability, qualification requirements, supported assets, and other service conditions depend on the relevant product pages and local restrictions.
Gate converts encrypted assets into fiat currency during user payments
Gate indicates that when a user makes a purchase, the relevant digital assets will be automatically exchanged for fiat currency at the point of sale. Therefore, merchants will receive payments through the regular bank card system, rather than directly accepting cryptocurrencies.
Visa describes the same process for its encrypted-linked cards in its network as well. According to the research by Visa, customers can use their balances of encrypted assets or stablecoins to fund their purchases, and then complete the conversion to local fiat currency at checkout. Merchants receive standard Visa payments and do not need to handle digital assets themselves.
Gate The current card product page shows that, in "instant consumption mode," the supported assets include USDT, BTC, ETH, and GT. The prepaid mode supports more assets, but Gate indicates that the available assets depend on the card type, issuing institution, and the user's location. The announcement on October 8th did not specify that each card in this new Visa card promotion, which covers over 40 markets, would support the same list of assets.
Gate The current card product documentation indicates that applicants must complete secondary identity verification. Some card types also require providing proof of recent residence, and the approval outcome depends on the place of residence, verification status, issuing institution, as well as compliance reviews.
Dr. Han, the founder and CEO of Gate, stated that this collaboration aims to make digital asset payments "more intuitive and closer to everyday needs." His statement describes Gate's expected uses for this product, but the actual usability still depends on the specific rules and qualification requirements of each market.
Gate plans to launch the Visa card in over 40 markets.
Gate indicates that this new Visa associated service is expected to cover more than 40 countries and regions. According to the data independently published by Visa, its network currently covers over 200 countries and regions, with more than 175 million merchant acceptance points.
This card issuance promotion does not mean that Gate is launching a payment card for the first time. Earlier in 2026, Gate was already providing card products in multiple regions, including virtual cards and physical cards. Its existing global documentation shows that Gate Card supports online shopping, contactless payments, as well as ATM withdrawals from certain physical cards. Some products also support Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Gate will enter the US card market separately in July. Gate US stated that on July 10th, it launched a Visa card with Visa, Stripe, and Bridge, allowing eligible US customers to use supported stablecoins such as USDC for purchases. This US prepaid debit card is issued by Lead Bank, and Bridge is responsible for managing this card program.
The announcement on October 8th pertained to Gate's plan to advance international expansion in over 40 markets, which falls under its newly launched Gate Money service. Therefore, the specific issuing institutions and card structures may vary from country to country.
Gate Money integrates this card into the Gate main application.
One day before announcing a partnership with Visa, Gate released Gate Money. This service was announced on October 7th during the event attended by founder Dr. Han at TOKEN2049. The service integrates cryptocurrencies, fiat currencies, stocks, ETF, gold, banking services, and payments into the Gate application. Users can enable Gate Money after updating the application to version 8.39.0.
As previously reported by crypto.news when Gate Money was launched, the platform aims to integrate asset management and payment into a single account. Gate indicates that eligible users can hold different fiat currencies, perform bank transfers, deposit crypto assets, and transfer funds between their trading accounts and payment accounts.
Eligible users can directly apply to open an e-banking account in their own name through Gate Money. Gate indicates that this service can connect bank accounts with digital assets and traditional investments within the application, allowing users to receive payments, exchange currencies, and complete transactions without the need to open separate Gate products for each task.
In its product announcement on October 7th, Gate stated that these cards can be used for both online and offline purchases. In some countries, payment options also include ATM cash withdrawals and local QR code payments. The specific functions vary by region.
Visa Cryptocurrency card business is growing rapidly
Gate has joined a Visa card market that is rapidly expanding in 2026. Visa stated on September 8th that in the second quarter of its fiscal year, there were over 160 card projects associated with stablecoins in operation globally. The payment volume for these projects increased by nearly 200% year-on-year.
As previously reported by crypto.news regarding the 160 stablecoin projects of Visa, the company also disclosed that the annualized operating scale of its stablecoin settlements has exceeded $20 billion. This figure describes the speed at which settlement activities are conducted and does not imply that Visa settled $20 billion in that year.
Visa announced on October 1st that updates showed that as of the current period of its 2026 fiscal year, business cards and commercial cards accounted for approximately 17% of the transaction volume associated with stablecoins. Visa stated that its stablecoin card network continues to cover over 160 projects aimed at consumers, enterprises, and commercial uses.
crypto.news also mentioned the same data in another recent report about the nearly 200% growth in payments using Visa stablecoins. Visa did not disclose the total amount spent that supported this percentage growth.
Visa is also expanding similar card collaborations in other regions. In March, it reached an agreement with Bridge under Stripe. According to this agreement, by the end of 2026, the stablecoin Visa supported by Bridge is planned to be extended from 18 countries to over 100 countries, covering Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East.
For this promotion of Gate, the company has not yet announced the final date for all more than 40 markets to go live. The announcement directs users to the card product page to check local qualification requirements, as well as the availability of supported assets and services.
Gate Money has its own separate expansion timeline. Gate indicates that its banking services plan will be extended to include more markets such as Europe, Australia, and Dubai, and its account infrastructure is expected to support payments in over 60 local currencies.
