Meanwhile claims to be the first licensed life insurance company that can operate entirely on Bitcoin. Recently, it raised $37.5 million from existing investors, with Bain Capital Crypto leading the funding round, bringing its total raised capital to over $180 million.
This round of financing follows a record-breaking year for the company, with growth momentum coming from its BTC Life to Pay single-payment policies targeting high-net-worth customers overseas.
This company has received support from Sam Altman and has been licensed to operate in Bermuda since 2024.

Meanwhile is a life insurance company that operates entirely on Bitcoin. With the increasing demand from wealthy overseas families for its unusual insurance policies, the company has raised $37.5 million in funding.
The Bermuda-based insurance company stated on Thursday that this round of financing came from existing investors, led by Bain Capital Crypto, with Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, and Morgan Creek Digital also participating in the investment.
Supporters of Meanwhile also include OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman. To date, the company has raised over $180 million in funding.
The company claims to be the first licensed life insurance company that can operate entirely in Bitcoin, with its balance sheet, reserves, and audited financial statements all denominated in this cryptocurrency. The company stated that after two years of testing in a regulatory sandbox, it obtained the first such license from the Bermuda Financial Services Commission in July 2024, and has placed the Bitcoins of all policyholders with a regulated institutional custodian.
This round of financing occurred after what Meanwhile referred to as a record-breaking year, with growth driven by international demand. The company stated that at the beginning of 2026, they launched BTC Life 1-Pay, which is a single-payment lifetime life insurance product aimed at high-net-worth clients outside of the United States. It represents the company's second product following the 10-payment version targeting U.S. taxpayers.
According to this single-payment policy, customers only need to make a one-time payment in Bitcoin to receive a guaranteed death benefit valued in Bitcoin for life; the value of the policy will grow in Bitcoin, and after one year, the holder can borrow up to 90% of the policy value without any requirement for a repayment plan or additional collateral.
Meanwhile indicates that since its launch, 15 brokers have signed on, including those from insurance centers in Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, and Switzerland, and it claims that its net long-term underwriting income has already exceeded the total for the entire of last year.
"Rich families around the world already hold Bitcoin. What they lack is a regulated way to pass it on," said Zac Townsend, co-founder and CEO of Meanwhile.
This round of financing reflects a broader trend: Bitcoin is being incorporated into traditional financial products. Last year, Delaware Life collaborated with BlackRock to offer Bitcoin exposure through fixed-index annuities, indicating that insurance companies are increasingly attempting to combine this volatile asset with long-term planning tools.
