Washington, October 12 ( PRNewswire ) – Solid rocket engine ( SRM ) manufacturer X- Bow Systems Inc ( X-Bow ®) announced today at the annual meeting and exhibition of the Army Association of the United States ( AUSA ) that the company has been selected by Leidos ( NYSE : LDOS ) to develop and produce booster engines for the new low-cost containerized ammunition ( LCCM ) of the U.S. Army.
According to the agreement, X-Bow will advance the design, qualification testing, and static ignition processes, followed by large-scale mass production of the booster engine in 2027.
This order has enabled X-Bow to enter one of the fastest-growing areas of U.S. defense spending: rebuilding the domestic solid rocket engine industry base, which has long been concentrated in the hands of a few large suppliers, and equipping with precision-guided ammunition on a mass scale. The LCCM project advances the Department of War's Arsenal of Freedom initiative, under which Leidos will produce these ammunitions in large quantities.
X-Bow, the founder and CEO, stated: "The outcome of modern warfare depends on how many rounds of ammunition you can send to the front line, not on how precise each round is. Collaborating with Leidos on the low-cost cruise missile project for the army has enabled us to do what we set out to do from the beginning: to produce rocket engines that can be deployed into combat quickly and on a large scale."
This order is the latest among the six new projects X-Bow acquired in 2026, covering the Navy, Army, and Missile Defense Agency. Previously, the company had just completed its first major production contract, delivering over 2,100 rocket engines ready for combat use.
X-Bow will meet with the outside world during the period of AUSA, from October 12th to 14th, at the location of Walter E in Washington, D.C. Washington Convention Center. If you need to arrange a briefing, please contact [ email protected ].
