JPMorgan Chase issued $7 billion in investment-grade bonds on Tuesday, kicking off a wave of financing by major Wall Street banks following the release of its third-quarter earnings.

An anonymous source, who declined to be named due to lack of authorization for public comment, stated that the issuance is divided into three tranches with bond terms of 4 years and 11 years, both of which can be redeemed one year before maturity. The source also mentioned that the yield on the longest-term bond tranche will be 0.9 percentage points higher than that of U.S. Treasury bonds, which is about 25 basis points narrower than the initial price guidance.

Another informed source said earlier on Tuesday that JPMorgan was seeking to raise at least $5 billion at that time.

According to Barclays' forecasts, the six major Wall Street banks are expected to raise approximately $41 billion this quarter through the issuance of high-grade bonds, which is 30% higher than the average level for the same period since 2015. Banks typically arrange financing after releasing their quarterly earnings.

JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, and Wells Fargo announced their third-quarter results on Tuesday. Bank of America and Morgan Stanley are scheduled to release their results on Wednesday.

Barclays analysts Peter Troisi and Ishika Goyal stated earlier this month in a report to clients that as customers' financing needs related to artificial intelligence ( AI ) continue to increase, and even as interest rates rise, bank bond spreads remain stable, banks have the incentive to continue to hold funds.

JPMorgan Chase declined to comment. Since the beginning of this year, the bank has issued $38 billion in investment-grade bonds through six transactions, compared to $26 billion for the entire year of 2025. The largest issuance in 2026 was $10 billion in bonds in April.
