Tacoma, Washington, October 14th / PRNewswire / -- Sound Credit Union ( Sound ) recently held its annual “Afternoon of Service” event, organizing employees to support a local non-profit organization. This year, the credit cooperative collaborated with Emergency Food Network ( EFN ) located in Lakewood to help provide meals for individuals and families facing food shortages.
More than 450 Sound employees from various locations in Washington state gathered in Tacoma to assemble 3,312 Bowls of Hope meal packs. Each meal pack contains all the ingredients needed to make chicken cornbread soup, providing a warm and nutritious meal for individuals and families in need. Through the collaboration between EFN and Costco, Sound was able to purchase ingredients in bulk, thereby maximizing the impact of charitable funds and expanding the community-wide effect.
Sound Credit Union Vice President of Public Relations Jennifer Reed stated: "Our Afternoon of Service is one of the activities that team members look forward to most each year. It demonstrates that our collaboration with non-profit organizations goes beyond just sponsorship. We see that as the costs of food, housing, and other necessities continue to rise, many families are facing challenges. It makes us proud to bring employees together to provide a hot meal for those who are experiencing food shortages, and it also strengthens our commitment to the communities we serve."
Sound's community donation strategy focuses on four key areas: financial education, affordable housing, food scarcity, and supporting the overall well-being of the communities it serves. As food costs continue to affect families across Washington state, collaborating with Emergency Food Network is a logical choice.
Emergency Food Network Deputy Director Lianna Olds said, "Hunger is affecting many neighbors in Pierce County. As the costs of food, medical care, and gasoline rise, the number of people seeking help at our partner organizations is increasing every month. But hunger is also a problem that all of us can truly address together. Events like Afternoon of Service show how much impact we can have on the community when we work together and care for one another."
The Sound, Afternoon, of, and Service demonstrated the power of collective action. By organizing employees around a common goal, Sound continues to invest in the well-being of the communities it serves and creates meaningful impacts beyond financial services.
