Schneider means: "People are actually selling things, raising funds very successfully, and supporting each other on the internet. We want to make this easier to achieve, and here's how we plan to do it: if you come across content on the internet that you like and support, you can support it with money. We hope to do this in a way that is suitable not only for Bluesky, but also for all other applications, so that it can cover the entire internet."
Schneider formerly served as the Chief Executive Officer of Automattic. He took over the company after Jay Graber of CEO stepped down in March. On stage, he expressed his surprise at the external reaction to his appointment, with some users even joking that this marked the "beginning of the end" for the platform. These comments reflect users' concerns that changes in leadership could bring about unwelcome alterations to Bluesky.
Schneider said he understands that if the company releases features or changes that users don't like, users can leave Bluesky and switch to other platforms; he said this reality will keep management accountable as they prepare to launch monetization features in the coming months.

Wang also mentioned Bluesky as the status of a public welfare company ( PBC ), and she said that this puts the company's mission at the core of its business strategy.
Wang said, "Yes, we need to make money, but due to our infrastructure, we can't lock people inside. Therefore, what's really important for us is that those who create value on the internet today should be able to receive the value or funds that flow into their hands. I kind of imagine it like a feudal society: we work for a few landlords who decide everything, and then we still have to pay our share, just like paying tariffs."
Bluesky aims to enable users to have their own digital identities and control their own networks, while also creating a more open internet that allows value and income to flow directly to those who create it.
Wang said, "First of all, we will start with payments, but I believe it's about breaking through the actual infrastructure layer, which is exactly what we are doing, and not just creating another application."
