- Ripple Prime Launches Swap Transactions Covering Over 100 Reference Markets
- Virtu Trading begins, institutions can access 24/7.
- RLUSD Collateral expands the ability of Ripple to enter traditional finance.
Ripple has launched 24/7 institutional trading services for derivatives related to over 100 traditional financial markets, allowing clients, including Virtu, to trade in stocks, commodities, and currency exposures even when regular exchanges are closed.
This new service, named Ripple Prime, was announced on October 15th and supports perpetual swaps on real-world assets such as stocks, stock indices, exchange-traded funds, metals, energy, and foreign exchange ( RWA ). Trading and settlement can be conducted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This expansion adds another institutional use case to the brokerage infrastructure of Ripple, however, the underlying contracts are operated through Hyperliquid rather than directly on XRP Ledger.
Ripple Prime Brings Over 100 Traditional Markets into 24/7 Trading
According to the announcement of Ripple, institutional clients can access the perpetual swaps of futures contracts listed by Trade.xyz on Hyperliquid.
Unlike traditional futures, perpetual contracts do not have a fixed expiration date. They provide exposure to the underlying market prices through derivatives, rather than requiring investors to purchase the underlying securities or commodities.
This distinction is very important, as this launch does not mean that more than 100 stocks or other assets will be tokenized on XRPL.
As the primary counterparty for these institutions' swaps, Ripple Prime provides a single counterparty relationship and unified risk management for the supported asset classes.
This progress is built on the earlier expansion of Ripple towards leverage ETF; its principal brokerage business provides financing for institutional products linked to traditional securities.
Customers can also manage their margin across multiple asset categories, which may reduce the amount of collateral they need to hold separately in different trading venues.
Virtu joins in, and RLUSD becomes the transaction collateral.

Virtu Financial is one of the institutional companies that have already started trading with the newly supported tools.
Virtu, the head of digital asset business development, stated that the company's expansion into emerging liquidity pools has benefited from Ripple Prime's 24/7 cross-asset margin management.
This announcement also introduces another use for RLUSD. RLUSD is a US dollar-backed stablecoin of Ripple, and eligible customers can use it as collateral depending on their jurisdiction.
The demand from institutions for RLUSD collateral has attracted the support of Standard Chartered Bank and LMAX Group. Both companies are developing more trading infrastructure around this token.
However, RLUSD as collateral should not be confused with the fact that all transactions must be settled on XRPL or that XRP is required for all of them.
These new perpetual swaps refer to the instruments listed on Hyperliquid. Ripple has not disclosed whether this service will bring additional direct demand for XRP.
Ripple Expands Its $1.25 Billion Prime Brokerage Business
Ripple Prime originated from Ripple and acquired Hidden Road for $1.25 billion in 2025. This move expanded the company's business from cryptocurrency payments to institutional clearing, financing, and derivatives.
Thereafter, in February 2026, the platform added a Hyperliquid connection, enabling customers to manage their decentralized derivatives exposures alongside other supported financial products.
Its institutional relationships are also continuing to grow, including expanding cooperation arrangements with Brevan Howard, an investment management company that manages assets worth approximately $35 billion.
However, round-the-clock trading also brings challenges during the closed hours of traditional markets. Even if the underlying reference markets do not generate new official prices, derivative prices may still fluctuate over weekends, thereby increasing valuation and liquidity risks.
This service is currently provided under the CIV BVI license of Ripple Prime. Ripple plans to expand it to more regions, but no timeline has been announced yet.
For Ripple, the most immediate significance at present is the broader access of institutions to traditional market derivatives. The benefits brought about by this XRP have not yet been quantified, therefore the development directions of brokerage services and token demand are two different paths.
