BIT Asset Management approved by FINMA to launch Switzerland's first ETF that directly invests in Bitcoin
The first exchange-traded fund (ETF) established in accordance with Swiss law that directly invests in Bitcoin and has been approved to be open to Swiss retail investors (ETF) has been authorized.
Zurich, October 22, 2026 / PRNewswire / — Asset management company BIT Asset Management AG (referred to as “BIT AM”) announced that the Swiss Financial Markets Supervisory Authority (FINMA) has approved Bitcoin Fund ETF (stock code: BBIT). BIT AM is a Swiss subsidiary wholly owned by BIT ( www.bit.com). According to a press release from FINMA, this is the first listed fund in Switzerland that directly invests in Bitcoin. Currently, it is also the only Bitcoin spot ETF in Europe.
The fund is expected to be listed on the Swiss stock exchange SIX Swiss Exchange in November.
Bitcoin Fund ETF ( BBIT )
Bitcoin spot fund ETF is designed to track the price trend of Bitcoin and can be traded through regular securities brokerage accounts. This fund directly holds Bitcoin, rather than futures contracts or derivatives. The company states that it is this structure that has enabled Bitcoin to enter traditional American investment portfolios; in January 2024, BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ( IBIT ), along with another 10 Bitcoin spot funds ETF, were launched in the United States.
At present, most Bitcoin-related products listed in Europe are exchange-traded products ( ETP ), which are debt securities that carry issuer risk. In contrast, Bitcoin Fund ETF belongs to a Swiss collective investment scheme. Its assets are separated from those of the management company and are held in a dedicated manner for the benefit of investors. This fund is open to retail investors in Switzerland, not limited to qualified investors only.
BIT Group CEO John Ge stated: "With its robust financial industry, clear regulatory framework, and innovative ecosystem, Switzerland has become an important hub for digital assets. For BIT Group, this makes Switzerland the natural choice for us to continue our international expansion. Launching the first Swiss Bitcoin ETF is a significant milestone for us; it reflects our long-term commitment to the Swiss market and our vision of connecting traditional finance with emerging technologies."
BIT Asset Management CEO Dominik Oggenfuss stated: "Through BBIT, we are committed to creating a genuine Swiss Bitcoin ETF. From fund management and custody to listing on SIX Swiss Exchange, everything is carried out within the framework of Switzerland. Investors can directly allocate Bitcoin by obtaining a Swiss investment fund approved by FINMA and benefit from the regulatory oversight and investor protection measures under Switzerland's mature collective investment regulatory framework."
He also stated, "Investors can now access Bitcoin through ordinary Swiss bank accounts, while enjoying Swiss fund governance, independent custody, and daily transparent disclosure of their holdings."
