Brief Information
- NIP Group (owning esports teams Ninjas, in, and Pyjamas) exchanged over 247 million Class A ordinary shares for the third batch of Bitcoin mining machines.
- The company stated that its current computing power is approximately 13.85 EH /s, which is sufficient to mine about 195 Bitcoins per month, worth approximately 2.8 million US dollars at the current price.
- The CEO stated regarding Decrypt, that if the returns are better than mining, the company may shift its computing power to artificial intelligence in the future.
NIP Group, which owns the legendary esports teams Ninjas, in, and Pyjamas, has exchanged over 247 million Class A ordinary shares for a third batch of Bitcoin mining machines.
NIP Group, the founder and CEO, told Decrypt that he prefers to bet on Bitcoin mining when the market is "cooling down", rather than during times of high market activity and fierce competition. He added that these facilities could also be used for artificial intelligence in the future.
Chahine said, "Now that this batch of transactions has been completed, our computing power is approximately 13.85 EH /s. This puts us among the largest listed mining companies in the world, with a monthly production of about 195 Bitcoins."
"This is real income, and it also supports everything we are building. This year, we re-examined every business aspect of NIP Group, not just mining. We made decisions with only one goal in mind: better profit margins and a clear path to profitability. Mining had to prove its value in this review, and it did just that."
Previously, this esports team expanded its Bitcoin business last year with the goal of mining 160 Bitcoins per month. This latest acquisition has raised that target by 35, to 195 Bitcoins per month, which is approximately $2.8 million at current prices.
Chahine told Decrypt that NIP Group is "optimistic about the development prospects in this direction," and added that the deployment of the third batch of Bitcoin mining machines will require "very little startup time."
NIP Group is a digital entertainment company known for its esports and gaming business. It owns Ninjas, in, and Pyjamas; the latter has professional teams for games such as "Counter-Strike 2," "Valorant," "League of Legends," and "Rocket League."
According to the data from Yahoo Finance, since last week's Bitcoin announcement, the stock code NIPG of NIP Group has fallen from $6.74 to $4, representing a decrease of 40.7%. This is also the historical low for this stock. Meanwhile, data from Decrypt shows that Bitcoin has fallen by 2% during the same period to $79,820.
The Future of Artificial Intelligence
Chahine explained that if market demand changes, these purchased facilities can be repurposed for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
He said about Decrypt: "We will look at how much AI and high-performance computing customers are actually willing to pay, how long they are willing to commit, and whether this demand is persistent or temporary. When these workloads clearly outperform mining in terms of returns, and that persistence lasts more than just a week or two, we might shift our computing power accordingly. If the data indicates a need to make that switch, then we will."
Of course, any future transition will require a great deal of work, as Bitcoin mining machines cannot simply be transformed into AI data centers by pressing a switch. However, Chahine indicates that the infrastructure surrounding the mining sites has laid a solid foundation for the conditions required by AI and high-performance computing.
"When we talk about AI, we mean using this site and our experience to carry out compute-intensive work when the economic conditions are suitable," he said. "We are essentially a game and entertainment company, so it makes sense to bring infrastructure and entertainment under the same roof."
