Boston, Massachusetts, October 27th / PRNewswire / -- Clinical-stage biotech companies CREATE Medicines and Inc (collectively referred to as “CREATE”) announced today that they will host a pre-conference industry workshop titled “In Vivo CAR - T: The Next Standard of Care for Autoimmune Disease?” during the 2026 Asia-Pacific League of Rheumatology (APLAR) Congress, and will present an oral abstract as well. The congress will be held from October 28th to November 1st, 2026, at the COEX Convention Center in Seoul, South Korea.
This workshop will bring together clinicians and scientists who are driving the development in this field, including Professor Georg Schett from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany. Research led by Professor Schett has shown that CAR-T immune reset can bring lasting, medication-free remission in lupus, myositis, and systemic sclerosis; it also includes Professor Cameron Turtle from the University of Sydney, whose early clinical trials helped establish CD19 CAR-T in the field of cancer. The workshop will review the journey from customized cell therapies to reproducible medicine with CAR-T, discuss the practical applications of CAR-T in autoimmune diseases, the biomarkers for cytokine release syndrome (CRS), as well as the scientific principles of CAR-T in vivo. Finally, there will be a moderated discussion and Q&A session. Dr. Daniel Getts, co-founder and CEO, will serve as the chairperson and moderator. Both Professor Schett and Professor Turtle are members of the CREATE Clinical and Scientific Advisory Board.
CRT-402 is the main autologous immunotherapy project of CREATE, aimed at achieving the same immune reset effect as that achieved in vitro with CAR-T. This project utilizes the CREATE targeted mRNA-LNP platform to directly program the patient's own T cells, in order to eliminate the B cells in the blood and tissues that cause the disease. It does not require the production of cells in vitro, nor does it necessitate chemotherapy. CRT-402 is currently conducting its first phase 1/2 clinical trial in humans in Australia, with participants including patients suffering from lupus, systemic sclerosis, and myositis ( NCT07778446 ).
Co-founder and CEO Daniel Getts stated, "The design goal of CRT-402 is to bring the immune reset capability that CAR-T has already demonstrated in autoimmune diseases to more patients. It is a ready-to-use therapy, built on a platform with the largest clinical dataset in the field of CAR in the body. CAR-T in the body represents the next chapter for autoimmune patients, and we are proud to be in Seoul, working alongside the pioneers who are initiating this discussion."
On Saturday, October 31st, Adam Raff, Senior Vice President of Autoimmunity Clinical Development, MD, PhD, will present a report titled “In Vivo Generation of CAR - T Cells for the Treatment of B-cell Mediated Autoimmune Disease” during Session 2 of the conference abstracts. The report will present preclinical data from mice and non-human primates, demonstrating that CREATE can eliminate B cells in deep tissues at low doses, which are precisely the sites where autoimmune diseases occur.
