Another early-stage proxy management startup worth paying attention to has emerged: Mintive. It deserves attention for two reasons: firstly, due to the background of its founding team, and secondly, because it has already attracted a long list of well-known investors.

Mintive has raised a total of 11 million US dollars in financing, including the recently announced 7 million US dollars in seed round financing. This round was led by Cowboy Ventures. Other investors include Coatue, Operator Collective, and Hustle Fund; angel investors include Okta co-founder Frederic Kerrest, Discovery Loop co-founder and former Google Chief Scientist Jeff Dean, as well as OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy, among others.

Mintive was founded by Jiquan Ngiam (far right in the image above) and Vijay Vasudevan (far left in the image above). Mintive, the Chief Executive Officer, was formerly a founding engineer for Coursera (the first employee, recruited by Andrew Ng), and later worked on neural network-related projects at Google Brain. The company's Chief Technology Officer, Vasudevan, is best known for his role as one of the co-creators of TensorFlow during his tenure at Google Brain. That was a generation of AI training platforms that preceded PyTorch.

Mintive Entering this market is quite crowded: a large number of products claim to provide governance, resource allocation, and identity management for AI agents of enterprises. Their platforms include a MCP gateway that allows IT professionals to authorize which cloud services agents can access and what operations they can perform on those services. It also provides a LLM gateway that routes requests between different models and helps to control costs; it handles agent identities and authorizations, which may differ from the permissions of the employees they serve; and it offers agent monitoring capabilities to track all agents within the company. The company also allows enterprises to create agents that can proactively execute long-term tasks.

However, it's hard to imagine a more intense competition in any other field. Amazon, Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic all offer proxy management systems, and there are also numerous smaller companies involved, such as Langchain, New Relic, Rippling, and so on. At the same time, there are countless startups working in a similar direction – just Y Combinator has incubated over 40 of them.

So, what is the unique aspect of Mintive? Ngiam indicates that, given the two founders' long-term experience in building AI for enterprises, they have designed the system to be particularly user-friendly. According to this startup, deployment only requires a few clicks.

Ngiam to TechCrunch says: "I think what will surprise our customers is how fast and easy it is to deploy. We have indeed considered all possible implementation methods, as well as all access control and permission layers, making the deployment process very simple for them. You don't need to worry about sandboxes, harness, or memory management, as we take care of all that for you."

Mintive indicates that since the product was launched in February, this selling point has helped it win over 50 corporate customers. These customers include Ro, Modern Treasury, the University of Michigan, Coursera, Apax, and Stability AI.

However, what truly impressed Cowboy Ventures, the managing partner of Aileen Lee, was the industry experience of the founding team.

Lee to TechCrunch means: “AI will be able to drive many incredible things, but we need more infrastructure to provide governance, visibility, and control.”

Lee also mentioned that what she particularly appreciates about Ngiam is that he remained restrained in terms of financing, raising only 11 million US dollars. In contrast, some other agency-based AI startups are raising huge amounts of capital with unicorn valuations. To give just one example: Prime Intellect completed a $130 million Series A financing at a valuation of $1 billion.

Lee said, "I feel very lucky to have gotten the opportunity to work with him. He is a mature person, so he isn't the kind who is after 'face-saving' financing."

Lee also added, "I believe that many companies are at risk of failure from the start because they focus on scaling their financing rounds rather than considering 'how much money I actually need to truly drive the company forward.' So, yes, in an era where everyone is raising funds on an unprecedented scale, we are still doing things in a traditional, piecemeal manner."

Oil tankers withstand escalating Iranian attacks, and crude oil continues to flow through the Strait of Hormuz
Since the United States and Israel went to war with Iran, Iran has increased attacks on merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz. However, with the escort provided by the U.S. military and adjustments in the operations of the shipping industry, the flow of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz has remained resilient. Although Brent crude oil prices have risen by more than 13% this month, and actual exports have only decreased slightly compared to September, freight rates and transportation costs have soared significantly.

Wall Street veteran says that if the slowdown of AI can cool down overheated sentiment, it may actually prolong the bull market.
Ed Yardeni, a senior figure on Wall Street, stated that the investment boom in AI is facing triple constraints of capital, physical resources, and politics. However, if these constraints can make capital allocation more efficient, they may actually prolong the AI bull market. Oxford Economics also believes that a slowdown in data center construction will help to alleviate inflation and long-term interest rate pressures.
