According to the National Development and Reform Commission, since the adjustment of domestic refined oil prices on October 15th, the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have escalated, leading to a significant increase in international crude oil prices. To mitigate the impact on the domestic market, the state has once again taken regulatory measures regarding refined oil prices. Based on the current pricing mechanism, starting from 24:00 on October 29th, the prices of gasoline and diesel (standard products) in China are scheduled to increase by 440 yuan and 420 yuan per ton respectively; however, taking into account the need to reduce the burden on downstream users and ensure a safe and stable supply of refined oil, the actual increases after regulation are 345 yuan and 335 yuan per ton.
The China Electricity Council released the "Analysis and Forecast Report on the National Power Supply and Demand Situation for the Third Quarter of 2026." The report shows that in the first three quarters, the total electricity consumption across the country was 8.07 trillion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 3.9%. The country added 250 million kilowatts of new power generation capacity, of which wind and solar power generation together accounted for 170 million kilowatts of new installed capacity, accounting for 67.8% of the total new installed capacity.
The report predicts that the growth rate of national electricity consumption in the fourth quarter will rebound significantly compared to the third quarter, with the annual total electricity consumption for the whole society expected to be around 10.8 trillion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 4%-4.5% year-on-year. During the peak winter period, it is anticipated that the overall electricity supply and demand situation across the country will be balanced; however, in the event of extreme conditions such as widespread cold waves or tight supplies of primary energy, there may be shortages of electricity during peak hours in certain areas. It is expected that the addition of new power generation capacity in 2026 will exceed 350 million kilowatts, and by the end of 2026, the total national power generation capacity will reach around 4.3 billion kilowatts. Of this, non-fossil energy power generation capacity will account for about 2.7 billion kilowatts, which is approximately 63% of the total capacity; wind and solar power generation capacity will make up half of the total power generation capacity; while coal-fired power generation capacity will account for about 31% of the total.

According to CCTV Finance, data released by the US Department of Commerce shows that in September, the US Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index (CPI) rose 3.6% year-on-year, and the core Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index, excluding food and energy prices, rose 3.1% year-on-year. Analysts believe that due to the impact of geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East driving up international oil prices, the increase in energy costs led to a rebound in overall inflation in September. The market is concerned to see whether companies will pass on the cost of fuel to consumers. The core CPI is the inflation indicator that the Federal Reserve (Fed) values most, as its service sector component reflects whether domestic price pressures are persistent; if this sub-item data continues to rise, financial markets will place more bets on the Fed raising interest rates by 25 basis points at its meeting in December this year.
