The startup AI, which focuses on respecting user privacy, announced that it will be shutting down within a week. Bill Lennon, the co-founder and CEO of the company, shared this news on X on Friday, stating that the application will officially cease operations on November 6th.

Lennon said, "I am truly proud of the achievements we have made. With a small team, we have created an outstanding personal assistant and have also learned a great deal in the process. I am very grateful to our excellent team, users, investors, and everyone who has supported us throughout this journey."

Over the past year, the AI assistant market based on text has expanded rapidly, as the model capabilities that support such applications have continued to strengthen, making them more useful in daily tasks.

Ollie revealed in September to TechCrunch that it had received a $7.5 million seed round of financing led by Khosla Ventures. The company adopts a subscription-based model, focusing on helping families stay connected and function in an organized manner. The app connects users' email and calendars, and also provides integrated features to help schedule appointments, plan meals, and pay bills. The company also planned to further expand into the field of family budget management.

It is worth noting that Ollie is one of the earliest mainstream applications to obtain SOC 2. SOC 2 is a privacy compliance standard, and companies can obtain this certification through independent audits. However, user privacy has never been a particularly profitable area in the tech industry. In fact, many new digital assistants bring unique privacy challenges to users – as demonstrated by companies such as Instinct.

Lennon indicates that in the end, the pressures brought about by the booming AI industry dragged down the company. "We were already very close to success, but in the end, we couldn't keep up with the pace," he said. "As Muse, Instinct, and other companies entered this field, it became even more difficult to stand out, achieve growth, and raise the funds needed for our success."

Lennon added that customers of Ollie will receive instructions on how to export data and how to get a refund in the coming days.

Apple will release its financial report after the market closes.
