Apple CEO John Ternus stated that the current rise in memory prices is "unprecedented," and costs are expected to be even higher in the December quarter. Apple claims that it has offset some of this pressure by stocking up in advance, carrying over inventory, and reducing prices on certain components, but future procurement costs may continue to rise.

On November 3rd, according to a report from the IT home, during the latest financial report conference call, Apple's CEO John Ternus stated that the current rise in memory prices is "unprecedented," and he expects costs to be even higher in the December quarter, with subsequent procurement prices likely to continue to rise as well.

According to a blog post cited by IT, during the financial report conference call for the fourth fiscal quarter of 2026 (from June 28, 2026, to September 26, 2026), Tenuis stated that compared to the third fiscal quarter (from March 28, 2026, to June 27, 2026), the cost of memory had increased in the fourth fiscal quarter. However, this increase was partially offset by advance inventory stocking, carryover of inventory, and price reductions on some non-memory components.

For the first fiscal quarter of fiscal year 2027 (from September 27, 2026, to December 26, 2026), Tenuus estimates that memory costs will continue to rise. Apple had previously raised the prices of Mac and iPad at the end of June, and also raised the price of iPhone in September; these price adjustments have alleviated the cost pressure to some extent.

Apple does not believe that the situation will improve quickly. Tenuis stated that looking ahead to the December quarter, memory procurement prices are expected to continue to rise, while the cost benefits from inventory will gradually diminish. This means that even if Apple manages to mitigate the pressure through supply chain management and product pricing, consumers may still experience price increases or configuration adjustments when purchasing iPhone, Mac, or iPad in the future.

Apple's fourth-quarter earnings exceeded expectations, but why did the stock price of AAPL fall?
Apple releases its financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026, ending in September, with both revenue and earnings per share exceeding Wall Street's expectations. Quarterly revenue reached a record high of $114.48 billion. However, investors are more concerned about the weaker gross margin guidance for the holiday season, rising costs of memory chips, and a slowdown in the growth of its services business, which has put pressure on the stock price.
