Seabed Services Company OMS Group has completed a $1.03 billion financing deal to support its expansion plans, which includes the acquisition of four new fiber optic cable laying vessels. These ships are expected to join its fleet in 2027 and 2028.
These new ships will enhance the company's cable-laying capacity, enabling it to keep up with the growing demand for undersea connections. As cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data centers continue to expand, this demand is also on the rise.
OMS Group CEO Ronnie Lim stated: "This financing supports our long-term growth plan, as well as the group's ongoing investment in end-to-end digital infrastructure capabilities. With these four newly built vessels, we aim to enhance our cable laying capacity and help customers build networks that support global digital growth."
The company is operated by its OMS Telco department and currently has 5 cable-laying ships in service, with another 4 new ships under construction.
Subscription multiple exceeds two times.
This financing package includes a term loan facility of $911.5 million, supported by corporate financing, trade financing, and export credit agencies ( ECA ); in addition, there is a trade financing facility of $120 million that is yet to undergo financial settlement.
In this transaction, HSBC Singapore and Standard Chartered Bank served as joint global coordinators, bookkeeping managers, and export credit coordinators, while KKR Capital Markets acted as the corporate advisor.
Export credit agencies Atradius Dutch State Business and Export Finance Norway will provide support for ship financing.
OMS Group indicates that this financing has received active participation from regional and international banking markets, including existing banking partners as well as new lenders.
The company stated, "The subscription multiples for both corporate loans and export credit support loans have exceeded two times, reflecting the lenders' broad confidence in the group and its growth plans."
The company added that corporate loans and export credit support loans are structured through coordinated processes to align with the characteristics of the industry and the group's expansion plans.
Standard Chartered's Global Head of Transportation Finance, Abhishek Pandey, stated: "This transaction demonstrates how deep industry expertise, strategic advisory capabilities, structured solutions, and strong international cooperation can come together to support a client's long-term investment plans. OMS Group is in a favorable position to seize the significant opportunities brought about by the ongoing expansion of global digital infrastructure."
