IT News on November 5th: Industry media DigiTimes reported yesterday (November 4th) that, citing supply chain sources, Apple has provided component suppliers with shipment forecasts for the second generation of MacBook Neo. The plan is to ship approximately 16 million units in 2027, which is double the shipment volume of 2026 (about 8 million units).
The second-generation MacBook Neo is expected to be released in the first half of 2027, bringing a number of performance upgrades. Market rumors suggest that the new device may be equipped with a A19 processor, have up to 12GB of memory, and also offer an expanded range of color options. However, the above configuration details are still based on supply chain and industry forecasts, and Apple has not officially confirmed them yet.
It should be noted that the term 'doubling' here does not exactly mean a doubling of shipments year-on-year. The first-generation MacBook Neo was released in early March 2026, and its shipment volume of 8 million units actually covered about 10 months, rather than a full year; therefore, if the forecast of 16 million units for 2027 is calculated based on a full year, the growth rate would be less than a literal doubling.
MacBook Neo has become one of Apple's most impactful new products in recent years. Tim Cook, Apple's former CEO, once described its release week as "the best release week for Mac users ever." Faced with strong demand, Apple doubled its production capacity in May 2026, and suppliers were also forced to accelerate their production schedules.
This product is also credited with helping Apple withstand the weakness in the global PC market: in the second quarter of 2026, Apple's Mac shipments increased by 13% year-on-year, standing in contrast to the overall decline in the PC market.
If the supply chain predictions are accurate, the expansion of orders for the second generation of MacBook Neo indicates that Apple is considering it as a key product for expanding its Mac user base, competing for price-sensitive consumers, and capturing emerging markets.
