Shielded Labs: Zcash governance relies on multi-party consensus, with over 2.3 million ZEC coin holders participating in the poll
2026-09-19 08:25:21
According to CoinMeta, Shielded Labs stated that the governance of Zcash relies on a rough consensus formed by token holders, community groups, and other parties. The token holder poll is merely used to measure opinions and is not a binding on-chain vote; no single group can independently drive changes to the protocol. The article mentions that the latest token holder poll involved over 2.3 million ZEC tokens. Regarding when the funds removed from circulation due to the network sustainability mechanism (NSM) should be reissued, the community group advocates for an immediate start, while token holders prefer February 2031. In the end, five protocol development organizations agreed to adopt the latter timeline. Shielded Labs calls on other development organizations to publicly acknowledge the governance principles involving multiple parties and to promote miner participation as well as improvements to the token holder poll tools.
