Interpol promotes new mechanism allowing member states to share clues on cross-border criminal assets

According to CoinMeta, and as reported by the Associated Press, Interpol is promoting a new "silver notice" mechanism that allows 196 member countries to share information on cross-border criminal assets such as cash, cryptocurrencies, vehicles, and real estate, and to assist in tracking and seizing these assets. Since the trial implementation of this mechanism in January 2025, 82 countries have participated, and at least 36 million euros in criminal assets have been identified. Interpol states that criminals are currently still able to retain about 99% of their illegal gains. The first silver notice was initiated by Italy against a high-ranking member of the mafia, and Brazil subsequently discovered multiple properties and other assets under that person's name and those of associated individuals. Member countries are expected to vote on the official adoption of this mechanism at the general assembly to be held in Hong Kong in November 2026.
