South Korean central bank launches 24-hour won settlement pilot

According to CoinMeta, the Bank of Korea (BOK) announced the launch of its first 24-hour Korean won settlement network pilot, aimed at allowing foreign investors to settle Korean won transactions during their local business hours. The network began trial operation on September 21, 2026, with participating domestic banks including KB National Bank of Korea, Woori Bank, Hana Bank, and Shinhan Bank. Full operation is expected to commence in January 2027. The network will be operational around the clock, except on weekends and public holidays, and is anticipated to enhance the international status of the Korean won.
