CoinMeta data: After the Coldcard hardware wallet hacking incident, white-hat hackers transferred 52.37 bitcoins to a newly established recovery trust address. The hacking incident began on July 30th and resulted in a loss of over $100 million in bitcoins. The attackers exploited a weak random number source used for wallet seed generation, making some seeds easy to be reconstructed by hackers. The manufacturer of Coldcard, Coinkite, has patched the firmware, but the exposed funds are still at risk. The 52.37 bitcoins transferred this time represent funds that were cleared from the second wave of attacks, accounting for approximately 2.8% of the total tracked funds.
