According to CoinMeta, Dutch police have arrested two suspects who are accused of using fake EURC tokens to purchase genuine Rolex watches. These suspects targeted sellers on the Netherlands' major online marketplace Marktplaats, arranging payments for luxury watches with EURC tokens before transferring what appeared to be genuine fake tokens. Several victims reported being scammed in August 2025. The sellers believed they had received legitimate EURC and delivered the Rolex watches. Police stated that the fake tokens involved in the fraud are difficult to distinguish from genuine EURC tokens. The two suspects, aged 24 and 45 respectively, were arrested on September 9th; the 45-year-old suspect has been released but is still under investigation. Police advise people to rely on payment methods they understand and trust, and the investigation is ongoing.
