White House: The structure of the crypto market cannot wait for a clear legislative opportunity after the election

According to CoinMeta, officials from the White House and the U.S. Treasury Department unanimously believe that Congress's so-called "lame-duck" session has not provided enough hope for clear legislation in the digital asset market; instead, it has shifted attention towards the regulatory efforts of U.S. market regulators in the field of crypto. The White House crypto advisor Patrick Witt and the Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions at the Treasury Department, Luke Pettit, expressed similar views during a CoinDesk policy and regulatory event in Washington. They pointed out that the outcome of the mid-term elections in November will determine the fate of Congress's lame-duck session. Witt stated, "I don't think it's over, but there is indeed a sense that the focus has shifted to the executive branch." He noted that there has been rapid progress in crypto regulation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) over the past week. Despite the lack of legal support, Witt still said, "We will do our best to use the power we have at our disposal."
