He advises investors to continue holding onto the winners from the third quarter. Stovall pointed out in a program on CNBC that historically, the fourth quarter of midterm election years has been favorable for the winners of the third quarter, with the S&P 500 averaging an increase of about 5.5% in that quarter. He mentioned that there is a 75% chance of a rise in quarters that have experienced a positive third quarter. Although the performance in the second and third quarters is usually not good, this year's performance is expected to follow this trend. Stovall also noted that industries with low debt performed well in the third quarter, and investors turned to these industries due to concerns about rising interest rates.
