According to CoinMeta, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal called on the Treasury Department and the Justice Department on September 28th to further investigate Tether related to Iran. The company stated that it has assisted in freezing nearly $550 million of USDT. Investigators examined 846 wallet accounts related to Iran, and the report indicated that 84% of the wallets used USDT almost exclusively for transactions. Blumenthal pointed out that Tether and its flagship token have become a core component of Iran's shadow banking system.
