Coinbase Launches Stablecoin Payment App Sivar to Support El Salvador

According to CoinMeta, Coinbase announced that its payment infrastructure supports a new remittance and identity application from El Salvador, Sivar. This application allows qualified users to transfer funds from the United States to verified recipients in El Salvador for a fixed fee of $2. Coinbase and Modveon indicate that over 25,000 Salvadorans have registered to use Sivar before its launch today. The Sivar platform appears as a traditional payment application on the front end, while the encryption infrastructure of CoinBase runs in the background, supporting peer-to-peer transfers and settling in stablecoins. Coinbase, the company's Chief Policy Officer, stated that the fixed-fee model enables the company to avoid proportional charges, as funds "flow entirely in the form of digital dollars."
