Bitcoin derivatives contracts experience the largest decline in a year
2026-09-29 22:48:20
CoinMeta data: According to U.Today, the total number of open Bitcoin derivative contracts has decreased by approximately 49,000 BTC in the past seven days, marking the largest weekly decline since October 2025. Currently, the total value of open Bitcoin futures contracts is around 52.89 billion US dollars, with trading prices near 84,070 US dollars, and trading volume over the past 24 hours amounting to about 56.25 billion US dollars. The clearing amount was only 67.6 million US dollars, which seems insignificant compared to the base of 52.9 billion US dollars in open contracts. Despite the significant contraction in derivative contracts, Bitcoin has remained relatively stable. It is worth noting that the 49,000 BTC decrease is related to the expiration of September Bitcoin contracts CME; therefore, it should not be interpreted as institutions abandoning their Bitcoin exposure. However, the derivative data still indicates a meaningful reduction in leverage.
